This award is intended to honour the memory of Doug Miller, who passed away in December 2023. Doug was a community leader in countless ways throughout his lifetime, but he will always be remembered by UOV families as a tireless supporter of our Association.
Retired from teaching and from coaching his son’s hockey, Doug changed out his white skate laces for pink and began coaching for UOV. Doug brought his passion and enthusiasm for the sport to his two granddaughters, Abbie and Kylie Miller, along with many other children who’s lives he touched.
Over the years, Doug served as Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Vice President on the Board. He brought gym ringette to our local schools, encouraging growth of the sport. It was only in his final year that Doug was no longer able to participate in on-ice mentorship, though he continued attending games and away tournaments, cheering for UOV.
The UOV Board of Directors would like to present the Doug Miller Memorial Award to the most deserving volunteer each season at the year end banquet. An individual or group can nominate a UOV volunteer to be considered for the award. At this time, the winner will be chosen by Doug’s sons, Chad and Kurtis Miller.
